(stats up to date as of October 9th, 2016)
This week’s top Prospect: Oskar Lindblom
The best Flyers prospect from the past week or two has been 2014 5th round pick, Oskar Lindblom. Lindblom plays for Brynas in the SHL, the top men’s league in Sweden.
Oskar Lindblom is off to a fantastic start to his season. It began with a 5 game point streak to start the season, which was eventually snapped on October 8th. Lindblom has technically been playing on the “third line” for Brynas, but it has been producing more like a first line.
In 6 SHL games this season, the 20-year-old has scored 4 goals to go along with 3 assists and a +4 rating. The Flyers are really high on this kid and for good reason. He has the potential to become a top-6 forward in the NHL, and he can make an immediate impact for the Flyers as soon as next season.
He has created multiple opportunities and chances but his teammates were just unable to finish.
The main reason Lindblom fell to the 5th round in his draft year was his skating. It has improved, but it is still not a strength. Transitioning to a smaller ice surface in North America will only help him.
The 6 foot 2 left winger plays a responsible defensive game, and can play in all situations. Lindblom has been getting a fair amount of ice time for Brynas, but nothing crazy. He has made the most out of it the ice time he has received, and if he continues to produce like this, there is no reason to believe that the amount of time on ice he sees per game will skyrocket.
