The Flyers lose 3-2(S/O) to the Buffalo Sabres. Let me repeat myself, LOSE to the Buffalo SABRES. Flyers goals scored by Ryan White (1) and Jakub Voracek (19). Sabres goals scored by Nicolas Deslauriers (5) and Brian Gionta (6).
The Flyers, who are looking to make a late season playoff push according to themselves, just lost to the worst team in the league. The Flyers gave up the first goal of the game for the 2nd game in a row after scoring first 7 straight games prior when Michael Del Zotto made a mistake in the defensive zone that bounced right to Nicolas Deslauriers who just tapped it by Emery for an easy goal. Thankfully Ryan White got his own lucky bounce for the Flyers after Braydon Coburn’s shot went wide, into the boards, and right to White who got his first goal as a Flyer and the sixth of his career.
The second period went pretty much the exact same way. A bad rebound by Emery just 38 seconds in that bounced right to Gionta for another easy goal for Buffalo. Jake Voracek ended his scoring slump 8 minutes after on a power-play goal which looked very similar to White’s goal earlier. After the 3rd period and overtime went scoreless, we were headed to the dreaded shootout. Voracek scored the only goal in the shootout for the Flyers while Gionta and Bryan Flynn scored for the Sabres.
After playing 11 seasons as a Flyer where he accumulated 396 points in 738 games, Eric Desjardins was inducted into the Flyers Hall-of-Fame. Desjardins won the Barry Ashbee trophy, which is awarded to the team’s most outstanding defenseman, 7 times in his career with the Flyers which included his first 6 seasons in Philadelphia. No other player has won it more times.
Evening the Score’s 3 stars of the night:
- Ryan White- White scored his first goal as Flyer to tie the game up in the first period. He also had 4 shots and 4 hits, both of which were 2nd on the team.
- Ray Emery- 30 saves on 32 shots with 2 huge shootout saves made Ray my choice for the second star on the night. Besides the bad rebound which lead to a goal in the 2nd period, he was calm in the net and made saved on all the stoppable shots.
- Wayne Simmonds- The Wayne Train continues to roll with an assist tonight. This extends his point streak to 6 games, and he’s recorded at least a point in 9 of his last 10 games (6G, 6A)
