EAGLES DEFEAT THE TENNESSEE TITANS 43-23.
After being absolutely mangled by the high powered Green Bay Packers last week, the Eagles shook off the loss and got back on the winning side of things in this game. It wasn’t the blowout bounceback most fans had hoped for, but it was comfortable to watch, as you never really believed the Eagles could lose. The win was also the Eagles 10th straight win at the Linc which makes it hard to imagine that the Eagles once struggled to get a home win for about a season and a half.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez completed 30 of 43 passes for 307 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Although the only smear in Sanchez’s stat sheet shows the 2 interceptions that he threw; don’t give any credit to the Titans defense though, they didn’t make any spectacular plays, the interceptions were all the fault of Mark Sanchez or a reciever. Sanchez has 8 turnovers in less than 4 games which people will point out, is pretty bad. Sanchez also made some bad throws and decisions since coming in but has gotten the wins. If Sanchez keeps up the turnovers, poor decisions, and bad throws it will certainly bite the Eagles in the ass in big games like the game coming up on Thanksgiving against the Dallas Cowboys.
So everyone who was not pleased with Shady McCoy this season, people who said that he lost a step, were dead wrong. McCoy had 21 carries for 130 yards, with an average 6.2 yards per carry, and 1 touchdown. Shady even busted a 53 yard long run that was great to watch as he seems to be gaining his rhythm finally. McCoy is averaging 95 yards and 4.5 yards per carry over the last 7 games. Hopefully Shady keeps this up and brings into the HUGE game against Dallas on Thanksgiving.
Wide receiver Jordan Matthews was yet another standout for the Eagles as he caught 6 passes for 77 yards with 12.5 yards per catch. Matthews needed 23 more yards to get a 100 yard game for the 3rd time in a row and would have been the 5th Eagles rookie to do so. Matthews is looking more and more like a legit star which is definitely a positive as the Eagles second rounder of this past draft is heavily producing and the first rounder is on the bench. Matthews only needs to average 73 yards per game to reach 1,000 yards and with Sanchez in the QB spot it seems pretty likely that he’ll break that.
Linebacker Connor Barwin played another stellar game and kept up his momentum throughout the entire season. Barwin racked up 2 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 tackles for loss. The 2 sacks by Barwin today give add to his sack count this year giving him 12 1/2 sacks in 11 games. Barwin is in a small group of guys who have more sacks in a season since Reggie and Clyde as the guys are Williams Fuller, Hugh Douglas, and Jason Babin. Barwin has played amazing this year and is the one of the leaders of this Eagles defense along with linebacker Demeco Ryans.
This game was an afterthought for fans when it got into the last 6 minutes of the 4th quarter as huge chants of “We Want Dallas!” broke out. The Eagles and the fans are more than certainly looking forward to playing Dallas and this game was just a stepping stone to get to it.
Coach Chip Kelly simply said this after the game about Dallas, “We’ll put our game plan together for Dallas and we’ll start training Monday.”
