Phillies Weekly-

Mon 9/22/14 – Sun 9/28/13

Monday: The Phillies held a private workout for Cuban outfielder Yasmani Tomas. Fans could take this to mean that the Phillies are showing legit interest in Tomas. Tomas could be the player the Phillies need as the club doesn’t have any top notch offensive prospects coming up and Tomas is said to be right-handed power hitting outfielder. The only question is, will the Phillies be willing to pay for an unknown player?

Tuesday: The Phillies fell to the Miami Marlins 2-0. Dom Brown went 2 for 4 in the loss. Cole Hamels received his 8th loss of the year going 7 innings, gave up 7 hits, 2 runs, walked 1, and struck out 4. Hamels also hit a double in this game. Hamels, as usual for this season, got absolutely no offense behind him to help him out.

Wednesday: The Phillies defeated the Marlins 2-1. Migeul Franco went 2 for 5 with 1 run scored. Darin Ruf went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and hit his 8th double of the season. Kyle Kendrick picked up his 10th win and a team high 10th win as he went 7 innings, gave up 6 hits, 1 run, walked 1, and struck out 2. This possibly could’ve been Kendrick’s last start as a Phillie as he is a free agent this offseason. Ken Giles picked up his 12th hold of the year and Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 38th save of the season.

Thursday: The Phillies fell to the Marlins 6-4. Ben Revere went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and stole his 48th base of the season. David Buchanan received the no decision as he went 5 1/3 innings, gave up 9 hits, and 2 runs. Antonio Bastardo recorded his 12th hold of the year. Jake Diekman blew his 4th save of the year and lost his 5th game of the year as he only went 1/3 of an inning but gave up 5 hits and 4 runs but only 3 earned runs.

Friday: General manager Ruben Amaro said something interesting about Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, “The plan for him is to try to get him to the point where he’s a starter again and to put him in the mix as a starter for us next year.” The Phillies announced that director of scouting, Marti Wolever, will not be returning to the Phillies. The Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-4. Cody Asche went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, and he hit his 25th double of the season. Jerome Williams received a no decision as he went 6 innings, gave up 8 hits, 4 runs, walked 1, and struck out 3.
