Mon 9/8/14 – Sun 9/14/14
Monday: The Phillies fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4. Jimmy Rollins went 1 for 2 with 1 run scored and hit his 4th triple of the year. Kyle Kendrick received his 12th loss of the year as he went 7 innings, gave up 9 hits, 5 runs, walked 2, and struck out 8. J-Roll strained his left hamstring in this loss and said that the recovery time should be about 10 days.
Tuesday: The Phillies beat the Pirates 4-3. Since J-Roll is out for a little bit, Maikel Franco moved up in the order and impressed on Tuesday as he went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, 1 RBI, and his 1st career double. David Buchanan received the no decision as he went 6 inning, gave up 4 hits, 3 runs but only 2 earned runs, walked 3, and struck out 5. Justin De Fratus got his 3rd win as he went 1 inning, gave up 2 hits, and struck out 1. Ken Giles recorded his 10th hold and Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 36th save.
Wednesday: Shortstop J.P. Crawford and reliever Luis Garcia were the Paul Owens award winners, this award goes to the Phillies’ top minor player and pitcher. The Phillies fell to the Pirates 6-3. Cody Asche went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and he hit his 21st double of the year. Jerome Williams received his 6th loss as he went 5 innings, gave up 7 hits, 4 runs, walked 1, and struck out 8.
Thursday: The Phillies fell to the Pirates 4-1. Carlos Ruiz went 2 for 4 as he picked up his 28th RBI of the year. A.J. Burnett received his 16th loss of the season as he went 6 innings, gave up 6 hits, 4 runs, walked 3, and struck out 7. Burnett always seems to get the short end of the stick or is looked down on when looking at win-loss record but Burnett is a good pitcher with good stuff but always seems to get the loss.
Friday: The Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 3-1 in 12 innings. Cody Asche went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs, 1 run scored, hit his 22nd double, and hit his 10th homer of the year and his 1st career walk off homer. Cole Hamels received the no decision as he went 7 innings, gave up 9 hits, 1, walked 1, struck out 6. Jake Diekman picked up his 5th win as he went 1 inning and struck out 1.

Kyle Kendrick picked up his 9th win in his last possible start in a Phillies uniform in CBP as he went 6 1/3 innings, gave up 7 hits, 1 run, walked 1, struck out 6. Jake Diekman picked up his 18th hold and Ken Giles picked up his 11th hold. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 37th save.
Sunday: The Phillies fell to the Marlins 5-4. Chase Utley went 1 for 5 with 1 run scored, 1 RBI, and hit his 32nd double of the year. David Buchanan received the no decision as he went 6 1/3 innings, gave up 5 hits, 1 run, walked 1, struck out 2. Antonio Bastardo picked up his 10th hold and Justin De Fratus picked up his 6th hold. Jonathan Papelbon blew his 4th save of the year as he went 1 inning, gave up 4 hits, and 4 runs. Additionally, Papelbon went haywire as he grabbed his crotch gesturing towards the fans and got ejected by umpire Joe West. West said this on Papelbon’s actions, “I saw him gesture to the fans, and that’s not good. That’s what I saw, and so did the plate umpire (Sean Barber). You can’t do things like that.”
