Phillies Weekly

The Phillies fell 6-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates and were swept by the Pirates on Sunday. Marlon Byrd went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, 2 RBI, and hit his 18th home run of the season. A.J. Burnett received his 8th loss of the year as he went 7 innings, gave up 5 hits, 3 runs scored, walked 2, and struck out 7. Chase Utley was named to start the All-Star game on Sunday. Cliff Lee threw 2 innings in his 1st rehab start.

The Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Monday. Chase Utley went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, walked 1 time, and hit his 7th homer of the season. Cole Hamels picked up his 3rd win as he went 6 2/3, 7 hits, 2 runs but 1 earned run, walked 2, and struck out 7. Ken Giles recorded his 1st hold as he went 1 1/3 innings and Jonathan Papelbon went 1 inning and recorded his 20th save. Carlos Ruiz could return from his concussion in mid-July.

The Phillies beat the Brewers 9-7 on Tuesday. Ben Revere went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Kyle Kendrick received his  4th win as he went 5 2/3 innings, gave up 11 hits, 7 runs, walked 2, and struck out 2. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 21st save. The Phillies beat the Brewers 4-1 Wednesday. Chase Utley went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored,1 RBI, and hit his 8th homer of the year. Roberto Hernandez picked up his 4th win of the year as he went 8 innings, gave up 3 hits, 1 run, walked 2, and struck out 3. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 22nd save. Cliff  Lee went 4 innings in his rehab start on Wednesday.

The Phillies beat the Brewers 9-1 and completed the series sweep on Thursday. Ryan Howard went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored, 3 RBI, and hit his 15th homer of the year. David Buchanan picked up his 5th win as he went 7 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 run, walked 1, and struck out 5. After the win the Phillies called up Grady Seizmore and demoted David Buchanan.

The Phillies picked up their 5th straight win as they beat the Washington Nationals 6-2 on Friday. Jimmy Rollins went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored,3 RBI, and hit his 10th and 11th homers of the year. A.J. Burnett went 7 2/3 innings, gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, walked 4, and struck out 6. The Phillies fell to the Nationals 5-3 in 10 innings and the Phillies 6 game winning streak was snapped. Marlon Byrd went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI. Cole Hamels received the no decision as he went 7 innings, gave up 4 hits, 3 runs, walked 3, and struck out 5. Jake Diekman received his 3rd loss as he went an inning, gave up 1 hit, and 2 runs.
