A.J. Burnett was diagnosed with a sports hernia this week but continue to pitch because the surgery can wait until after the season ends. The Phillies fell to the Atlanta Braves 9-6 in wild one in Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies came back from a 5 run deficit in the eighth to tie it only to have the bullpen blow the miraculous comeback. Jake Diekman relinquished the lead in the ninth inning off of a Dan Uggla grand slam. Braves catcher Evan Gattis also homered twice in the Braves win. Chase Utley went 2 for 5, Ryan Howard went 1 for 4 with a homer, and Dom Brown went 1 for 3 with a homer and 3 RBI. The Phillies and Braves game on Tuesday was postponed due to rain. The Phillies fell to the Braves 1-0 in a true pitchers duel. Braves catcher Evan Gattis picked up the lone RBI in the victory fro the Braves. Cliff Lee was given absolutely no run support as he was given the loss went the full nine innings giving  up 11 hits but striking out 13 batters. Braves pitcher Julio Tehran topped Lee as he also went the distance in the game as he only gave up 3 hits and struck out 4.


On Thursday, the Phillies turned the table on the Braves as this time they beat the Braves 1-0. A.J. Burnett dazzled as he went 7 innings while giving up 3 hits, walking 2 batters, and striking out 5. Antoni Bastardo picked up the win as he worked the eighth inning and Jonathan Papelbon picked up his fourth save of the season as he struck out 2 batters. Ben Revere delivered the big hit in the win over the Braves on Thursday afternoon.

Closer Jonathan Papelbon snapped on the media on Thursday as he said,

“Why do you guys care about velo so much, man? Is that — does it matter? You think that matters? I don’t understand that. I mean, if a ball has life at the plate and you are throwing 88 miles an hour as opposed to 98 miles an hour, it doesn’t make a damn bit of a difference. Whether you throw 93 or 94 or 84. I just, I don’t get it man.”


Cole Hamels pitched very well in a rehab start in the minors as he went 7 innings and only allowed one run. The Phillies-Braves game is rescheduled for June in a day-night doubleheader and Cole Hamels will make his first start of the regular season on Wednesday against the LA Dodgers according to manager Ryne Sandberg.

The Phillies were absolutely demolished by the Colorado Rockies 12-1 as the Phils’ started their 10 game road trip. Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitski led the charge as he went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 runs scored, and 5 RBI. Jonathan Pettibone was lit up for 9 hits and 8 earned runs in only 4 innings pitched and was then demoted to Triple-A following the loss. The Phillies made Saturday’s game way closer but still couldn’t pick up the win as they fell 3-1 to the Rockies. Kyle Kendrick went 7 innings while giving up 3 earned runs. Jimmy Rol
