In his first season in the NHL, 25 year old Michael Raffl had obviously made some noise on the Flyers lineup. Since the struggling Flyers roster called Raffl up from the Adirondak Phantoms in October, he has seen a lot of success and gained popularity among fans very quickly.
In 57 games played this season Raffl has 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points and has been an effective, physical, versatile winger becoming a big name in the lineup. All at a discount 1 year contract worth $792,500.
After a 4-1 win over the #1 St. Louis Blues, it was announced that the Flyers would be extending Raffl’s contract and was later confirmed by Paul Holmgren. Raffl’s hard work has earned him 2 years at $2.2 million. He is seen as a good devensive minded forward who is quick and physical. Fans have seen Raffl out work almost every player he comes up against and create numerous scoring chances for his linemates no matter what line he might be on.
Fans will remember that Raffl was one of only five Flyers to represent his country (Austria) in the Olympic games. In the Olympic run Raffl had 1 goal and 2 assists including the game winning goal in Austria’s only win.
Hopefully the Flyers hold on tight to the Rafflcopter.
