Former closer Brad Lidge arrived at Phillies camp to begin his stint as a guest instructor. Lidge, who is 37, retired from baseball in 2012 but is still in the game by appearing on MLB Network radio but Lidge is down at spring training for a specific reason and that is to help out the young relievers. Lidge said this about helping younger players, “Hopefully the thing I can help with is having a game plan. You can have a good arm, but that’s only part of the equation. The other is knowing what you’re doing when you get out there. I think talking to these guys about their approaches and game plans would be a good use of my time. I had ups and downs in my career and I think that can help me relate to guys.”

The Phillies honored Jim Fregosi before the Wednesday game against the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies and Braves scored at the score of 2-2. Cole Hamels was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday but did not throw the session because of a “fatigued arm”. The game was a split squad contest but the other scheduled game against the Detroit Tigers was rained out. On Friday the Phillies were shalacked against the Baltimore Orioles with the score of 15-4. A.J. Burnett gave up 6 runs on seven hits in three innings in the blowout loss. Ryne Sandberg simply said, “Hopefully, this was just a throw away type of game.” Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez allowed four runs in one inning which might hurt his chances of making the starting rotation.

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told 94.1 WIP on Friday that it is possible that Cole Hamels could return as early as April. The Phillies beat the Houston Astros 11-3 on Saturday afternoon. Third baseman Cody Asche and catcher Carlos Ruiz both hit three run homers in the win. Reliever Mike Adams threw his second bullpen session of spring training on Saturday and said he is feeling fine. Closer Jonathan Papelbon had another statement that opened some eyes as he said, “I will be surprised if we’re not a top five bullpen in all of baseball. There’s way too much talent here. All we were waiting on was the experience and now these guys have it.”
