Sixers Weekly – Professional Tanking

The Sixers lost their 11th straight game and 10 straight at home on Monday to the league worst Milwaukee Bucks 130-110 and this loss dropped their record to 15-42. The Sixers were outscored 43-16 in the second quarter and this occurrence was the eighth time that the Sixers have allowed 40 or more points in a single quarter. Thaddeus Young led the Sixers with 25 points, a career high seven assists, and six steals. Michael Carter Williams also chipped in to 20 points, three assists, but had five turnovers. Newly acquired Danny Granger did not play in the game. During this game their was a fan that fell asleep. This can describe the Sixers season in a nutshell as a fan, sitting courtside no less, fell asleep. The feel good story of Kevin Grow, who was with the Sixers on a 2 day contract, will play for the Harlem Globetrotters next month as the team’s three point specialist.

Head coach Brett Brown and the Sixers made defense a focal point in practice on Tuesday. Coach Brown said this about the team’s defense, “It is always transition defense. You have to get the house set. I have been saying it far too long. There is some truth to the fact these guys just met each other, so there is a group you can give a break to.” Danny Granger, who never played a game with the Sixers and never wanted when he was traded to the Sixers, was bought out and is no longer with the club. The Sixers lost their 12th straight game and 11th straight at home on Wednesday to the Orlando Magic 101-90. Michael Carter Williams scored only 8 points on 3 of 13 shooting, pulled down six rebounds, dished four assists, three steals, and three turnovers. Thaddeus Young led the Sixers in scoring with 19 points, Tony Wroten scored 15 points, and newly acquired Henry Sims scored a career high 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Former Sixer Danny Granger has signed with the Los Angeles Clippers after being bought out by the Sixers.

The Sixers will be retiring Allen Iverson’s number 3 on Saturday against the Washington Wizards. A.I. is still a valuable person as the tickets for this game are double what they usually are. The Sixers will be wearing a patch on their jersey to honor Iverson and the patch reads “Allen Iverson, Sixer Forever”. Thaddeus Young said this about Iverson, “A.I. is a legend, especially in Philadelphia. It doesn’t get any better than A.I. for the Philadelphia 76ers in this city. He is one of the guys who helped bring the franchise back. He led them back to the championship. He didn’t win it but they had a great run and he is a great player.” Coach Brown is using it as an example as he said, “I told my team that you are going into an arena and see a man that brought a program into the Finals. It wasn’t labeled with a ring like Dr. J, and yet this city still believes and supports him like you are going to see. It is a fantastic example of what we are trying to do here.”
