Winter Classic rumor: Flyers to DC?

WC2015

Over at HockeyBuzz.com, Eklund is reporting that he has been informed by two sources that the Flyers will head to Washington in 2015 for the annual Winter Classic. He also said a little bit about the continuation of the new Stadium Series, but that doesn’t really concern us.

This news isn’t official yet, but an announcement is expected soon. If the Flyers do get the Winter Classic call for 2015 it will be their 3rd appearance of the last 5 outdoor games, the others being in 2010 against the Boston Bruins and 2012 against the New York Rangers.

Tim Panaccio posted a follow up to the rumors saying that The Flyers and Bruins were both under consideration to face the Capitals in 2015, but there had been no decision made known to either team. A Flyers official may have read a little far into the Capitals Jersey choice in last Tuesday’s game.

“that same official wondered if the Caps had sent a hidden message to Philly recently by wearing their third jersey — the previous Winter Classic jersey — against the Flyers on Dec. 17 at Wells Fargo Center.”
