Another Win at Home

Eagles fans can actually brag at home now as the Eagles have won more than one game at Lincoln Financial Field in a season. The Eagles snapped an over 400 day long losing streak of 10 games at home. The Eagles gave the home crowd something to cheer about when the game was over instead of walking out of the stadium angry and frustrated with another loss like we’ve become accustomed to.

The Eagles snapped this long and agonizing streak with a 24-16 over the NFC East rival Washington Redskins. The Eagles 24-16 win was the first home win since September 19, 2012 against the New York Giants. Nick Foles improved to 4-1 starter this season and bounced back at home from the awful Dallas game earlier in the season. Foles completed 17 of 26 passes that went for 298 yards and also ran for 47 yards and a touchdown. LeSean McCoy rushed for 1,000 yards for the season in this game and McCoy had 150 total yards with 3 total touchdown. It seemed like McCoy wouldn’t have had this game as he went down with a hamstring injury in the second quarter. This injury didn’t slow McCoy down as came back more fired up and seemed faster when he got his touches in the 3rd quarter.

Two plays helped the Eagles secure the win and one of them was by punter Donnie Jones. Donnie Jones hit a 70 yard punt that pinned the Redskins down to their own 4 yard line. The punt was the longest since the 80 yard punt by Randall Cunningham in 1994. Jones said this about the plat, ” At that point in the game, it was a huge play.” The other play was by Brandon Boykin as he picked off RG3’s pass with 24 seconds left and sealed the win for the Eagles. Boykin said this about the play, ” I just saw the ball floating in the air, I was like, Is this real life?”

After the bye week, the Eagles did not disappoint as they won 24-21 against the Arizona Cardinals. This was Chip Kelly’s first win after the bye week in the NFL and the Eagles won their 4th straight game to keep pace with the arch rival Dallas Cowboys. Nick Foles kept on rolling as he completed 21 of 34 passes for 237 yards threw 3 touchdowns, and had 112 passer rating. Foles has thrown 19 touchdowns without an interception and broke the record of most passes in a row without an interception of 224 passes set by Michael Vick in 2010. Rookie tight end Zach Ertz notched his first career two touchdown game.

The Eagles still had to squeeze out the win as they kept letting the become smaller and smaller. The Eagles ability to finish games is becoming more in doubt as they had a 24-7 lead in the third quarter. Chip Kelly seemed to stop wanting to score to keep the lead at a nice comfort level. The defense is improving and getting better as we’ve watched through the season but can we really expect for the defense to hold up. This will be the first meaningful month of December football in 3 seasons for the Eagles. Let’s hope and support that the Eagles bring us back to the playoffs!
