The Phillies top catching prospect Tommy Joseph was rooting for the Boston Red Sox because of a similar injury he and catcher David Ross share,  both men have suffered concussions this season off of a foul ball hitting their catchers mask. This injury is a major setback for Joseph because he was expected to compete for the starting catcher position for the Phils’ in 2014. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said since this injury that re-signing Carlos Ruiz is a “priority” because “we don’t have anybody who is going to step in.”

The Eagles were defeated by the New York Giants for the team’s 10th straight loss at home with score of 15-7. The Eagles failed to score an offensive touchdown and the only score came from a fumble recovery. Matt Barkley had his second straight appearance but he came when the team was down double digits after Michael Vick re-injured his hamstring forcing him to leave the field. Barkley went 17 out of 26 in 3 quarters with 3 more turnovers.

The only trade that the Eagles made at this year’s trade deadline was nose tackle Issac Sopoaga and a 2014 6th round pick to the New England Patriots for a 2014 5th round pick.

The Flyers made some roster changes this week as they traded forward Max Talbot to the Colorado Avalanche for forward Steve Downie. Downie is meant to fill a playmaker role on the team and is expected to get a shot with the top line with Giroux and Lecavalier. Downie has had first line play in Colorado and has played with Lecavalier in his time on the Tampa Bay Lightning and Lecavalier. The Flyers looked even more lifeless than usual on Friday against the Capitals giving up 6 unanswered goals in the first two periods. After a good 1st period only falling 1-0, the Flyers didn’t show up in the rest of the game leading to a 7-0 loss. The most exciting part of the game came in the 3rd period with a full ice brawl. Fights included: Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn, Vinny Lecavalier and most surprisingly Ray Emery.

The Sixers pulled off the upset against the Miami Heat and probably their biggest victory this season. First round draft pick Michael Carter-Williams or MCW  was clearly player of the game with his 22 point, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, and 9 steals. This historic performance received praise from hall of fame point guard Magic Johnson as Magic, ” I just got done watching the guy I think will be the Rookie of the Year, Michael Carter-Williams of the 76ers. The upset came on the night of Sixer great Allen Iverson announcing his retirement and it was announced during the game that on March 1st the team will retire Iverson’s number 3. The Sixers picked up the team options on guard Tony Wroten and forward Arnett Moultrie but not forward Evan Turner. Turner said this about not being extended, ” I didn’t expect anything because Sam Hinkie is not my GM. “
